On January 23, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI held an audience with David & Bronny Lea, the leadership couple for the Worldwide Marriage Encounter world council. During their meeting, the Pope was quoted as saying,
"Ah, Marriage Encounter, yes, you are doing such important work in our church especially in this world we live in. I will pray for you and for your movement."
